After more than 30 years experience as a professional artist, I realize I have so much more to learn.
I have illustrated, animated, and designed for game companies, newspapers, magazines, local businesses, spirit label-makers, book publishers, community spaces, friends and conventions. My game industry experience — matching the art style needed for the project at hand — helped shape my eclectic style. Years displaying at science fiction, horror, and fantasy conventions spurred my passion for painting and helped unleash my imagination.
All that being said — I feel I jumped into an art career without doing enough preparation. I treated art like it was an innate skill. It took me half a lifetime to realize it’s not. Once I allowed myself the freedom to not know, I could start re-learning and improving my craft. In this new role of lifelong-learning-artist, I am quickly picking up the things I neglected to learn. I will share what I learn along the way.
My continuing artistic pursuit is to apply my creativity towards making significant, inspiring, edgy paintings and sculptures; illustrated books of lasting artistic and social value; and fantastic portraits that reveal the subject’s inner self. I believe in community. If you do too, I invite you to send me feedback to help me shape my work for the people.
